Ike Thrash, president, said recently the company had met the guidelines set forth by Hilton to use the DoubleTree brand for the Fort Smith hotel. Dawn Properties bought the Fort Smith hotel in November for more than $3 million. Although the new owners had made an agreement with Hilton by mid-April to seek the DoubleTree name, an interim independent name has been required until renovations are farther along. Walker Thrash, partner, said Monday the rooms on floors two to five are being renovated first. The rooms have been gutted for remodeling. The cavernous atrium is expected to see renovations sometime after the start of the new year.
